I did some research on the N1H1 virus because I was a bit concerned as to why there seemed to be such a panic about this virus and here is what I learned.
Most people have been vaccinated or have antibodies already against the two common strains of flu. These two types seem to be called Type A and type B. It seems the N1H1 virus does not fit these two types, so people are not immunized against this virus, and thus it is transmitted much faster than the normal flu. Also, the N1H1 or “Swine flu” is usually passed between pigs and farmers, but now it has mutated and has the ability to travel person-to-person and this appears to be a new attribute.
However, the symptoms of N1H1 are pretty much the same as the normal flu we get during flu season. The problem here is the same as always, the flu is most devastating to the young and the elderly who do not have the immune system necessary to fight the virus. Having said that let’s try to remember that the normal flu kills about 35,000 people annually, so in that regard the numbers could be higher and thus this virus bears watching.
